As more is being understood about soil health and the different, yet connected, roles of macronutrients and micronutrients, more companies are seeking to develop nutrient formulations to help farmers maximize crop health and yield – both domestically and internationally. A key challenge is understanding the regulatory requirements and designing the formula to meet each country’s demands.

Our team has gained experience developing micronutrient formulations our customers intend to register in other countries. Our customers provide us with each country’s requirements, and we use that information to create the formulation to meet regulatory needs. Some insights into what we’ve learned:

  • Some countries require product labels to include more details about the ingredients. It’s critical to work closely with regulatory bodies so you’re creating the label correctly from the start.
  • Micronutrient formulations may contain other components that support their ability to maximize crop health. It’s important to ensure all components work synergistically.
  • Before building the formula, identify the simplest components that will help you achieve registration while producing a product that delivers on your product performance goal(s) and is easy for farmers to use.
  • Pay attention to bioavailability. The plant needs to easily take up the nutrients, so chelation may be needed in formulation development.
  • Because plants only need small quantities of micronutrients, it’s best to test performance at the field level versus greenhouse.
